Bruny Island is a hidden gem, close to Hobart, well loved by locals, but little known by those outside of Tasmania. It is renowned for its spectacular and varied scenery, beautiful beaches, and abundant wildlife.
Bruny Island Getaway

Bruny Island Tasmania 7150
Bruny Island Getaway is located on the northernmost tip of quiet, picturesque North Bruny.
Situated on Nebraska Beach, Bruny Island Getaway has views that seem to go on forever back towards the Tasmanian mainland over the D’entrecasteaux Channel.
With panoramic floor to ceiling windows and a wide deck designed for entertaining that overlooks the beach, the stunning view with its ever-changing light and rippling water instantly relaxes and soothes. The back and sides of the property are fringed by trees filled with abundant birds and wildlife including quolls.
Nebraska Beach is a short 20 metre walk from the house through a private pathway. Once on the beach you can meander along the golden sand to take in the Art Gallery at Dennes Point or fabulous meals and coffee at the Jetty Café (10 minutes gentle walk), or cast a line off the Dennes Point jetty and catch squid or a feed of fresh whiting or sole for dinner.
Bruny Island is off the south-east coast of Tasmania. It is easy to get to, being only a 35 minute drive from Hobart to Kettering, and then a quick 20 minute ferry ride on the Bruny Island Ferry across the beautiful D’entrecasteaux Channel.
Bruny Island Ferry
The ferry departs regularly throughout the day, and there is no need to book although the ferry can be popular during weekends and holiday times. Return vehicle fares cost $30 per car ($35 on public holidays) and you pay as you drive on the ferry at Kettering.
The Bruny Island Ferry is cash only (there is no eftpos and there are limited ATMs available in the area).
See the Bruny Island Ferry website for a detailed timetable and fees.
There are over 200km of touring roads on the island, with the roads a mixture of sealed and gravel roads.
There's no public transport or taxis on Bruny Island, so you need to bring your own car or hire a car to explore the island and to get around.
If hiring a car, you need to make sure that the hire company permits the car to travel on Bruny Island (e.g. Avis does not permit their cars on Bruny Island). We recommend Rent for Less or Bargain Car Rentals in Hobart.
You can find Bruny Island Getaway at 39 Cox Drive, Dennes Point
To get to the house, take the ferry from Kettering to Roberts Point on Bruny Island. Take the Main Road (it really is called the Main Road) from the ferry and drive to the Dennes Point turn off which is approximately 9kms.
You then travel along approximately 10km of gravel road, which is winding and narrow in parts. Take care and drive slowly as local wildlife and sheep regularly meander across the road when you least expect them.
In Dennes Point continue past the Jetty on Nebraska Beach for 1.5 km. Turn left onto Cox Road and travel approximately 350 metres along the road until you get to number 39. Your Bruny Island Getaway is on the left.
There is a generous 10m double parking bay on the property for you to safely park your cars or van off the road.
